In the past, Karlova Street was a significant part of the historical Royal Road. The U Zlatého Stromu structure has Gothic foundations which date back to the 14th century. From their windows, its previous residents could easily follow the coronation procession and delegations of foreign monarchs winding their way past our building to Prague Castle.
Charles Bridge is moments from our hotel, revealing the most striking of Prague panoramas to visitors, with a view of Malá Strana and Prague Castle. In the Middle Ages, Karlova Street belonged to artisans. Most of the residents in Hotel U Zlatého Stromu were goldsmiths; therefore it is conceivable that a goldsmith\'s workshop was also located here. Across the street, you can discover the monumental Baroque grounds of the former Jesuit College with its legendary astronomical observatory tower, presently the seat of the National Library of the Czech Republic.
